Council met on March 12, 2025 for their regular meeting. The following issues of general interest were addressed:
1. Monica Coskey of Seven Mile Publishing addressed Council to discuss proposed services for the coming fiscal year. Seven Mile Publishing continue in its current role, publicizing Avalon events throughout the year.
2. The bulkhead at 6th Avenue and 24th Street is to be reconstructed. The contract has been awarded to Cape Construction.
3. The Garden Club will hold their annual sale on Mother’s Day weekend, May 10 and 11.
4. The Police Department is in the process of acquiring new vehicle extraction equipment (aka “Jaws of Life“).
5. The potential ordinance addressing the requirement for all dumpsters and other construction vehicles to be covered in transit in and out of Avalon in order to prevent debris from falling out was approved. This ordinance is being implemented to protect the island and well as the wetlands all along Avalon Boulevard. The new ordinance will go into affect on April 10.
6. Ken Wensel has been appointed to the Planning and Zoning Board, and will begin his role effective immediately.
7. Plans are still being developed for a beach replenishment project before Memorial Day. Some repairs need to be made to the bridges before moving the needed heavy equipment onto Seven Mile Island.
