Borough applied for a $100,000 grant to improve the 8th Street recreation complex ...

Avalon Borough Council met for their regularly scheduled meeting on December 18, 2024.  The following issues of general interest were addressed at the meeting:

  1. A grant application is being made to the State of New Jersey, in the amount of $100,000 for improvements to the SW corner (12th St and Ocean Drive) of the 8th Street recreation complex.  Sidewalks will be extended to improve access and additional fitness station equipment added.
  2. Council voted to extend the lease on the Borough owned property at 2989 Ocean Drive to the Avalon Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber has conducted their affairs from this building for a number of years.
  3. It was decided to extend the landscaping contract with Guzzo Landscaping for maintenance of Borough property based on superior performance in the past.
  4. The many years of Jim Thatcher’s contributions to the Avalon Free Public Library were recognized.  Jim has served as a trustee and a treasurer of the Library and has now decided not to serve another term.  Jim Craft, former Avalon CFO who is now retired, is being appointed to replace Jim Thatcher as a Library trustee.
  5. Tom McCullough,  Commander of American Legion Post 331, addressed Council to express appreciation for the contributions of elected officials, department heads, and the police department for their efforts in assisting the Legion Post fulfill its mission of helping vets through the past year.
