Borough Council: April 27th
Council met on Wednesday April 27, 2022. At the meeting the following issues were addressed:
The Avalon Free Library Director Erin Brown gave a detailed presentation of library activities over the past year. Despite COVID, membership has continued to increase to more than 5,000 members with 53% usage from the digital collection.. Council congratulated Ms. Brown and the library staff on their continued service in providing an award winning facility.
Police Chief Jeffrey Christopher advised Council that Class II officers are being hired for the summer season. These include 5 new police academy graduates and 4 returning officers. Council approved a resolution hiring these officers.
Council approved a resolution opposing the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's proposed coastal regulations. Other ocean front municipalities are also in opposition because the proposal includes unrealistic requirements for our communities.
The spring beach fill will commence at any time. There has been a delay in contracting for this work so the start dates and completion have moved further into the spring and summer months. There will be no beach fill work on the weekends. Activities will also be suspended on the extended Memorial Day weekend from Friday through Monday. Completion date for the fill is June 17, 2022.
