Borough Council: April 14th

At the April 14th Council meeting, the following actions were taken:

  • Borough Business Administrator Scott Wahl introduced a representative of a video company who provided information about streamlining Council meetings to the public.  Two options were discussed with Council members participating in the discussion:

    • The first option was to install a stationary camera in Council chambers and simply toggle it on and off to streamline meeting administration and record them for posting on the Borough website for later viewing.  This would cost little, but greatly limits viewers perceptions of meetings.  The camera would be focused on the Council members only, and not on others in attendance.  Furthermore, the camera could not be refocused on charts, graphs, and illustrations used routinely in presentations to Council.

    • The second option would be to have a camera operator present who could refocus the camera as needed to give a tailored view to the audience and provide for the viewing of any visual aids used during meetings.

It appears that the 2nd option is preferred based on comments by Council members.  Further considerations, including costs, are now being pursued.

  • ·A Resolution was approved for a shared services agreement with Wildwood for the hiring of a new Subcode official due to a recent resignation.  Jason Dilworth is being hired for this position.

  • There was discussion about renewal of a 20-year lease agreement with Cape May County MUA for a portion of the 39th Street recreation area.  The rent of a small building by the MUA would continue.

  • The Wetlands Institute will conduct an on-site raffle for merchandise on July 31, 2021.

  • Council approved a Resolution to accept a grant of $5,280.00 for the Cops-in-Shops program which will run from May 26th through September 16th, designed to reduce underage consumption of alcohol at retail facilities.

  • Council approved an emergency expenditure for professional cleaning of a shop at Public Works.  This was required to mitigate a dangerous situation in one of the shops.

  • The Beach back-passing operation for 2021 should commence by the end of April, with planned completion before Memorial Day.

  • A Resolution was approved to provide the County with EMT assistance at Covid-19 vaccine sites.  The Borough will be reimbursed for the cost.
