Borough Council: November 15th
Council met and the following issues were discussed and/or acted upon:
Borough Administrator Scott Wahl advised that there had been a number of inquiries about boardwalk development and assignment of the available liquor license that had resulted from social media. Mr. Wahl assured Council that as of the date/time of the meeting, the Planning and Zoning Board had received no applications for boardwalk development and no application for the liquor license has been made.
Later, during the regular meeting, full time Avalon resident Mr. John Gianelli addressed Council concerning the boardwalk development issues. Mr. Gianelli lives in the vicinity of the municipal parking lot and spoke at the January 2021 meetings in opposition to an earlier application for boardwalk development. This month he had contacted the Borough and received immediate responses with information identical to Mr. Wahl's statement. He thanked Borough officials for their prompt responses to his emails and advised that any further boardwalk development issues would be strongly opposed by property owners in the vicinity.
Police Department Captain John Roscoe advised Council that effective December 11, 2021, the Department is hiring two Class II officers who are recent graduates of the county police academy.
There was discussion of the proposed flood plain management plan which is now in draft form. Leadership of the Environmental Commission were present and were thanked for their efforts in developing the new plan.
There was a second reading and approval of Ordinance No. 829-2021 pertaining to Floor Area Ratio (FAR). This ordinance changes some requirements for closed and open garages. The ordinance, in its entirely, will be posted on the Borough's Website.
