Borough Council: January 12th

Council met on January 12, 2022 for the first meeting of the new year.

  • Council approved a resolution authorizing the release from deed restrictions for the property at 325 7th Street. Height restrictions are being waived as well as limitations regarding square footage and the number of buildings.

  • Council also discussed and approved a settlement agreement and release in the matter of Andrew Buchanan vs. Borough of Avalon. This agreement was approved by Planning and Zoning in December 2021 and provides for a loading and unloading zone on 21st Street and striping for five parking spaces on Dune Drive.

  • A municipal lien has been imposed on the property located at 397 20th Street. The property owner ignored two notices of overgrown brush and vegetation. Public Works cleaned up the property twice during the summer requiring overtime. The cost is the reason for the lien.

  • A lengthy discussion was held regarding the implementation of a system for remote contacts with the live streamed Council meetings. A test was held during the meeting and the test call was clear and could be heard by everyone. It was decided to go ahead with immediate trial implementation for the next Council meeting barring any unforeseen factors. The Borough website will have instructions on how to participate remotely. Borough property owner Martha Wright spoke during the public comment period and has been a long time advocate of the live stream system and thanked Council for going ahead.

  • Council approved the re-appointment of C Danielle Nollett as Borough Clerk.

  • Commander Tom McCullough of the American Legion Post #331 spoke during the public comment period and thanked the Borough and the community for their support during the past year.

  • Council approved a number of resolutions regarding appointments for a variety of professional services for the calendar year. These range from legal councils to the Director of the Coastal Research Center at Stockton State University.
