Borough Council: May 25

Council discussed and acted on the following issues during the Wednesday, May 25th meeting:

  1. Police Chief Jeffrey Christopher recognized the 30 years of commendable service of Captain John Roscoe on the occasion of his retirement.  Captain Roscoe was recognized and thanked by the Mayor and the Borough Council.

  2. Mayor Martin Pagliughi administered the oath of office to newly promoted Captain Sean McNair, who replaces Captain John Roscoe.

  3. The Mayor also administered the oath to newly promoted Sergeant Matthew Ardeling who will fill the vacancy resulting from the promotion of Captain McNair.

  4. By mid day on Thursday the Borough Website will have posted the beaches that will be open for the Memorial Day weekend.  The back passing operation will resume on Tuesday after a four day suspension for the holiday weekend.  The 12th and 13th Street access paths are still compromised but it is planned that this will be corrected with the continuing back passing operation.

  5. Council approved a resolution to allow public bids for Contract 22-02, 2022 Collection and Disposal of Solid Waste and Recycling Materials.

  6. Council also approved a resolution for execution of a contract with Richard E Pierson Construction Company, Inc for Contract No M-126:  78th Street Pump Station Project.

  7. The following public comments were made at the meeting:

  •  Julie Donnatelli noted that the construction of a swimming pool was just started in her neighborhood.  She stated that this will cause excessive noise and take up much needed parking spaces.  The Borough, in response to her inquiry earlier this week,  advised that the building permit allowed up to 67 days total for construction.  Ms. Donnatelli said that this type of construction is an intrusion during the summer months and should not be permitted.

  • Martha Wright spoke in support of Ms. Donnatelli and recommended that construction of swimming be prohibited between Memorial Day and 4th of July each year. Ms. Wright also advised that the current curbside return of trash cans results in increase numbers of trash containers being blown around by wind.  She strongly recommended that regardless of cost that trash collections be returned to side of the house.
