Borough Council: June 8th
Council discussed and acted on the following issues during the Wednesday, June 8th meeting:
Borough Business Administrator Scott Wahl informed Council that the beach back passing operation will be completed by the end of this week, with final clean up on Monday, June 13th.
Council discussed a resolution establishing the meeting dates for the period July 1 , 2022 through June 30, 2023.
A resolution was approved to accept a NJ state grant for the COPS IN SHOPS summer shore initiative in the amount of $1,920.00. Police Chief Christopher advised that this was a little less than last year. This is a program to address underage drinking in establishments that serve alcohol. Chief Christopher explained that operations under this program are at the request of the owners of these establishments.
Police Chief Christopher advised council that the annual state accreditation of the department has been completed. Although the final report has not been received, the department has a perfect compliance for the fourth year in a row.
The shared services agreement with Cape May County for the 78th Street pump station project in the amount of $672,000 was discussed. This project is designed to help with flooding issues.
Public Works director William McCormack informed Council that work has been completed correcting a defective bulkhead in the vicinity of 8th Street and the bay. The defect was undermining the sidewalk and the street. There was only one response to a bid and that was in the amount of $95,000.00. Public Works staff was able to successfully handle the project with the only cost being for materials used.
Only one comment, via live stream, was received from Martha Wright. Council confirmed for Ms. Wright that meetings will continue to be at 4:00 PM for the coming year. Ms Wright also asked Council to reconsider Resolution 3-2011 which addressed the operation of the Sport Fishing Center.
