Borough Council: August 10
Council held their regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, August 10 2022 and addressed the following topics:
Council approved a resolution for a handicapped parking space at 215 17th Street. Police Chief Jeffrey Christopher reported that all requirements were met.
Deed restrictions on the property at 211 14th Street were waived. These involved height restrictions and square footage requirements.
Council approved a place-to-place transfer of the plenary retail consumption license issued to Z21 Corporation. This involves the license issued for the facilities Z21 has on 21st Street, and include the Princeton and other adjacent facilities. The transfer allows alcohol to be served at an added outdoor facility.
Borough Administrator Scott Wahl reported the following at the meeting:
The Environmental Commission asked the Council be advised that a drought emergency is in effect and asks that property owners voluntarily limit their water usage.
Mr. Wahl reminded Council that AHLOA's annual meeting is this Saturday at 10:00 AM in Community Hall and that the Mayor will speak. Middlesex Water Company will be on hand and can discuss the new smart water meters being installed. Samples of the new trash cans, which will be delivered to property owners in the spring of 2023, will be displayed.
There were comments/questions from three property owners.
Chirs Zukerman questioned why there were fewer beach mats allowing access to beaches this season. Mr. Wahl explained that there are some beach mats but not in the numbers as in previous years due to staff shortages in the Public Works Department. Mats must be cleaned every day and it takes two people to clean them. Mr. Zukerman also commented favorably on the Avalon Beach Patrol performance this summer.
Leonard Infranco, who recently built a second home at 4169 Dune Drive, questioned his trash cans being left in the street leaving them to blow around. Mr Wahl explained the recent change from side of the house return to curbside return and the process, now in place, for bids. Hopefully we will be able to return to side of the house return in the future. The planned distribution of uniform secure trash cans planned for the spring was briefly discussed.
Martha Wright of 632 7th Street commented on the drought conditions and recommended that the Borough implement restrictions on water usage.
