Borough Council: January 25

Council held their regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 and addressed the following topics:

  1. Dave Koski, President of the Avalon Historical Association, gave a presentation of a Historical Marker Program being initiated by the Association.  This would be a two-tiered program with nominations from the general public and selection by a committee.  The goal would be to erect one or two markers per year with the cost covered by the Association, and installation assistance provided by the Borough,

  2. Police Chief Jeffrey Christopher introduced Mr. Harry Delgado from the NJ Police Chiefs Association who described the recent accreditation of the Avalon Police Department by the Association.  This is the fourth consecutive time that Avalon's Police Department has been accredited.  Only 7.8% of NJ municipal police departments have achieved this.

  3. Council approved a resolution authorizing a Borough-wide yard sale, sponsored by the Avalon Garden Club, on May 13, 2023.

  4. Beach fill plans continue.  The schedule for the this effort is posted on the Borough’s website, and will be adjusted as needed.  Currently the hydraulic fill will begin on March 20th, with a scheduled completion date of April 30th.  When Avalon's effort is completed, the equipment will move to Stone Harbor.

  5. Plans for reconstruction of bulkheads at 23rd, 33rd, 34, and 72nd Streets, and work on the piers at 23rd and 33rd Streets, were discussed.
