Council held the regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The following issues of interest were addressed:

1. Assistant Borough Administrator Jim Waldron addressed Council and gave a detailed briefing on recent allegations related to the complaints of a charter boat owner about slip assignments at the Avalon Sports Fishing Center.  He responded to earlier complaints that the Borough was violating an ordinance.  Mr. Waldron addressed his concerns fully and explained, in detail, how slip assignments are being made and how they comply with current regulations.

2. The Cape May County Herald was designated as Avalon's official newspaper for another year.

3. Mott McDonald's representative confirmed that only non-polluting materials were used in recent adjustments at the Sports Fishing Center.  The Center has 17 boat slips that include 7 charter boats.  There is one open slip for boaters to stop at the Center.  There are no longer kayak rentals at the Center.

4. As of 10:00 AM on June 26th the beach replenishment project has been completed.  All access paths are now open and can be used.

5. At a meeting scheduled for noon on Monday, July 1st, Council will reorganize into standing committees for the coming year.

6. The Director of Recreation, Chuck McDonell, addressed Council about an adjustment being made to pickle ball courts at the 8th Street recreation area.  One court has been out of line with adjacent courts resulting in a potential safety hazard.  The subject court is being painted over and the new configuration will allow for two courts.

7. Two ordinances were approved.  Both are related to bond issues for capital improvements including water and sewer.
