Borough Council: July 10
Avalon Borough Council met for their regularly scheduled meeting on July 10, 2024. The following issues of general interest were addressed at the meeting:
Mari Coskey is now the President of Borough Council and led the meeting.
Borough Administrator Scott Wahl briefed Council on a proposal to improve the Grace O'Brien park and playground adjacent to the 8th Street recreation area. Inspection of the playground revealed the need to replace equipment and to resolve drainage issues which cause ponding in the playground. An application is being made to Cape May County for Open Spaces funding for the proposed improvement project.
An ordinance was passed to provide for an Assistant Public Works Director and to resolve some conflicting issues in earlier ordinances.
The bidding process for the Bay Park Marina project has begun, with bids expected in August.
An ice cream truck vendor addressed Council complaining about failure to require similar vendors to correct oil leaks after he was forced to correct an oil leak in 2020.
Kevin Dougherty of 21st Street addressed Council about alleged irregularities in slip assignments at the Avalon Sport Fishing Center.
Elaine Scattergood spoke to Council, objecting to the five minute time limit for public comments.
