Borough Council: July 12

Council held the regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. The following issues of interest were addressed:

  1. A resolution was approved appointing Brenda Camp as the Borough's tax assessor until June 30, 2024.

  2. Council approved an application for a handicapped parking space at 98 East 35th Street. The applicant met all requirements for this action.

  3. CFO Jim Craft addressed Council about the coming increase to water/sewage rates.  Currently water users are paying .00235 per gallon.  This will be raised to .00435 per gallon for up to 50,000 gallons of use per quarter.  There is a two tiered system for use in excess of 50,000 gallons.

  4. Council approved a resolution appointing Chet Johnson to fill the seat vacated by recently elected Mayor John McCorristin. Mr. Johnson will stand for election to a full term this coming November for this at large seat.

  5. Council approved the appointment of  Paul Bardini to represent the Borough in the case of Sponable vs Borough of Avalon.  This involves a case where a homeowner was given approval to build a swimming pool.   A neighbor was opposed, and a court has found in their favor.  It is hoped that this can be resolved within the next six months.
