Lenore Tedesco, Executive Director of the Wetlands Institute, requested that AHLOA help distribute this notice to our members who navigate the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway (NJIWW).by any type of vessel. The Coast Guard is requesting that any NJIWW user complete a 3-page survey and submit the form as a email attachment by November 23rd. Results of the surveys will be used to help determine how the Coast Guard will manage the waterway markings moving forward. There are a list of critical shoals that require removal, and responses to the survey will help direct funding and operations needed to clear the waterway for the USCG buoy tender to continue to maintain these markers. Many of these remaining shoals in the NJIWW are located between Atlantic City and Cape May.
Partners like The Wetlands Institute and NJDEP in the Seven Mile Island Innovation Lab help establish important beneficial use alternatives to clear these critical shoals and keep the waterway safe and navigable while improving coastal resilience.
Information on the survey mechanics is available at this link. For your convenience, the 3-page form that must be filled out is attached here. You will be required to attach the saved form and send via email to: DelawareBayWWM@uscg.mil. The form indicates that responses are due by November 6th, but we have been informed the deadline is now November 23rd, which is reinforced by the notice below.
