Avalon's Borough Council met for a live stream meeting at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. A video of the meeting can be found on YouTube at the following link.
The highlights from the meeting are as follows:
Council approved a refund for four 2021 beach tags.. At issue were active duty military personnel who were not aware of the Borough's policy of issuing free beach tags to such active duty personnel. The money was returned to those affected, and Council members commented that this is a good practice.
A resolution was approved to make payment to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for the 2019 Hydraulic Beach Fill. The Borough is obligated to pay this share of the total cost which is about $870;000.
Payment is made in accordance with the mayor's letter accompanying payment which requires efforts between Federal and State Fish and Wildlife Agencies and the Corps of Engineers to resolve issues between the agencies.
Jacquie Ewing of the 7 Mile Business Association has informed the Borough that they have received a grant of $19,500.00 for promoting the Borough through media contacts and special events. Similar grants have been received over the last few years. All of the grants were through Jacquie Ewing's efforts.
In November, the Community Center will host a program for providing COVID 19 booster shots. Details are on the Borough website. Those interested must provide proof of having the first two shots.
Installation of new water meters will begin right after the December readings and be completed prior to the March 2022 readings. Installation will be from North to South. More information is on the Borough’s website at this link.
