Council discussed and acted on the following issues during the Wednesday, June 22nd meeting:
The Mayor administered the oath of office to newly appointed patrolman Owen Pickett. Officer Pickett has begun his eight weeks of field training.
Purchasing agent Joe Clark and business administrator Scott Wahl gave a presentation on a developing plan to provide standard trash and recycling cans to Avalon residences and businesses. The Borough has met with Rurik Pacific to develop a plan to provide one solid waste and one recycling trash receptacle to each property in Avalon. These would be available in 20, 35, or 65 gallon varieties. The two containers would be provided without cost, and property owners would have the option to purchase additional containers. Trash containers would have bar codes linking them to the address of record. Initial estimates provide for a cost of $300,000 to implement and it would be financed by a bond issue to be paid in the next budget cycle.
Three members of the public spoke in support of live streaming the future meetings, and Mr. O'Neill spoke in person and highlighted the urgency of live stream availability in view of current discussions of variances related to a proposed boutique hotel.
