Council held their regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 and addressed the following topics:
Council approved a resolution regarding the replacement of the 7th Street outfall pipe. The pipe needs to be replaced because of failure, and at the same time, relocated to provide for easier access for future repairs.
Property owner Martha Wright who resides in the 7th Street neighborhood questioned Council about this replacement. She is in total agreement that the pipe needs to be replaced but has additional concerns: (i) the need to address additional flooding issues in the vicinity of the Avalon Yacht Club; (ii) the possibility of the subdivision of the property which she and neighbors object to. Council has no evidence of current interest to subdivide the property in relation to replacing the pipe.
Council is addressing the need to replace the failing pipe and this will require permits from the State Department of Environmental Protection and the Corps of Engineers. These permits will take about five months.
22nd Street resident Rocco Pugliese addressed Council regarding what is being done about the ongoing issues related to the night time activities of teenage youths on bicycles congregating in groups of 80 to 100 and intimidating residents.
The issue was addressed by Council, Assistant Borough Administrator Scott Wahl, and Police Chief Jeffrey Christopher. While proposals to improve the current situation have been made to the legislature in Trenton, the majority party has not scheduled any hearings to move any proposals further. It appears there is a North Jersey/South Jersey political divide at the current time.
Borough Administrator Scott Wahl advised Council of the successful meeting last week regarding flood insurance. More than fifty property owners were in attendance and the meeting is posted to the Borough website.
Property Owners Martha Wright and Elaine Scattergood addressed Council on the need to live stream Planning and Zoning Board Meetings. This issued has surfaced at several recent meetings.
