Council held their regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 and addressed the following topics:
The highlight of the meeting was an extensive presentation by the Stockton University Coastal Research Center. Interim Director Kimberly McKenna, and Interim Deputy Steve Hafner, spoke at lenght about issues related to the history and current status of Avalon's beach and coastal areas. Their presentation can been seen here on YouTube.
Mr. Hafner addressed the recent history of Avalon's Beaches. He noted that the recent back passing operations of 2019 through 2022 were successful at the time, but weather incidents of the past year (the Mother's Day Northeaster and hurricanes in the Fall of 2022) have significantly eroded the beaches, particularly from 13th to 18th Street. The upcoming hydraulic beach fill should remedy this situation by Memorial Day.
There was a meeting earlier in the day on February 22nd between the Borough and the hydraulic beach fill contractor. Current plans are for the operation to begin March 20th, subject to weather and/or equipment issues. Weekly updates on the Beach Fill project are posted to the Boro's Website.
Council approved funds related to the fire house renovations, addressing unforeseen costs related to drainage and outdoor surfacing.
