Council held the regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. The following issues of interest were addressed:
Mayor John McCorristin administered the oath of office to newly appointed Deputy Municipal Clerk Shane Daino
Council approved a resolution authorizing usage of contracts with Camden County Educational Cooperative Pricing System for the 2023 calendar year. This system is being used for replacement of HVAC equipment in Community Hall and the police station. This work will be accomplished before the summer of 2024. Money has already been appropriated, but actual costs will be about one half of the budgeted amount.
Anticipated work on the 8th Street sports complex was discussed. It is planned to add three tennis courts, to replace the courts converted to pickle ball use this year. Two will be constructed on vacant space, and one of three basketball courts will provide the space for a third. This will leave two basketball courts at 8th Street, but there are others in the Borough.
The Tree Memorial Program, designed to replace the Memorial Bench Program, was discussed. Cost of a tree dedication will be $1,200.00 and can be renewed after a seven year period. $200.00 will be held aside for treatment and maintenance by an arborist. It is expected that application forms and other administrative issues will be addressed at the next Council meeting.
Barbara Stout and Martha Wright addressed Council with their concerns which involved a blocked driveway parking issue and construction related flooding at 4th Avenue and 20th Street. The flooding issue is being addressed by relocation of an outfall pipe previously approved for the two duplex construction project. Builder Thomas Welsh has placed $72,000 in escrow to cover the costs. This is expected to help reduce the flooding issue.
