Borough Council: May 12th

At the May 12th Council Meeting the following actions were taken:

  • A resolution authorizing Mott MacDonald to provide engineering services for reconstruction of several streets (50th, 53rd, and 54th Street)

  • A resolution approving the submission of a grant application with New Jersey Community Affairs, Local Recreation Improvement Grant to resurface the 39th Street Tennis Courts

  • A resolution was approved for an indemnification agreement in connection with the 2021 Beach back passing project and heavy equipment traveling on county roads

  • A resolution authorizing a contract with Just Right TV, LLC for live stream services of Council Meetings at a cost of $300 per meeting.  The contract is from July to December 2021.  Public comment at meetings will continue via phone call-in.

  • The introduction and first reading of ordinance 820-2021 was approved.  This ordinance amends the salary ordinance dealing with the Beach Patrol (salary range for the Beach Captain and bonus program for retention) and Construction code enforcement (resolving conflict in definition of cabana in Chapter 26 and 27) as well as Flood area ratio.

General Information and Public Comment:

  • Preliminary results of the Borough Council election were presented. 11.4% of the 2010 registered voters cast ballots either in person or by mail. Vote totals of the top 3 vote getters were: John McCorristin (217); Mari Coskey (215) and Jamie McDermott (209).

  • Council had a very lengthy discussion concerning the proposed resolution on live streaming and there were several public comments supporting the need to live stream.

  • Public Comments were also made concerning:

    • The proposed Ocean Wind Farm (2 property owners)

    • Medical Cannabis (half dozen comments – none were property owners)

      • The commenters were told many times that there was nothing at this time on the Council’s agenda.
