Council held their regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 and addressed the following topics:
A $2 increase in beach tag fees for summer 2023 has been proposed. Seasonal and holiday tags would increase from $28 (in 2022) to $30 before Memorial Day. After Memorial Day 2023, the cost would rise from $33 (in 2022) to $35.
CME Associates was contracted to study the Dune Drive flooding issues from 19th to 33rd Streets. They have studied flooding from different perspectives and will be presenting proposals for improvement in the future.
The recent storms have resulted in extensive damage to Avalon beaches and other beachfront shore communities. A hydraulic beach fill is scheduled, and it is hoped that this effort can be expanded in order to have usable beaches this summer.
LIzanne Tracey of Stone Harbor addressed Council about the Planning and Zoning Board meeting last night. She does not see the reasons for delaying the proposed changes which would allow a boutique hotel in the business district. She sees this as a plus for Avalon and the surrounding communities.
Martha Wright of Avalon congratulated the Planning and Zoning Board for putting the boutique hotel related issue on hold and contracting with a professional planner to study the issues and make more informed recommendations.
