Council held the regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. The following issues of interest were addressed:
Mayor John McCorristin swore in Gregory Johnson as a member of Borough Council Mr. Johnson fills the seat vacated by Mr. McCorristin when he became mayor.
Mayor McCorristin addressed Council and provided a history of Council actions over the last ten years while he was a member.
Tax bills were mailed late, again, due to the delay with state and county information. The first quarter payment is normally due on August 1st, but because of the late mailing, the grace period has been extended to Monday, August 21st, 2023.
Approval was given for Samantha Coons to become the Deputy Court Administrator.
The mayor presented a check in the amount of $1.879 million to Council. These funds represent excess and unused library funds and are being deposited with the Borough.
There will be a public meeting on August 15th at 5:00 PM, in the Council Chamber at Borough Hall to discuss insurance issues in the Borough.
Avalon Resident Martha Wright raised the issue of some home owners concerns about the light pollution in Avalon and the possibility of reducing excess lighting so that the sky is more visible to everyone. She pointed out that in recent years many property owners have added flood lights, and this reduces the ability to observe the sky.
