Borough Council: September 25

Avalon Borough Council met for their regularly scheduled meeting on September 25, 2024.  The following issues of general interest were addressed at the meeting:

  1. Council approved a resolution designating October 6, 2024 as Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day.

  2. The Mayor has informed Council of two appointments to the Planning and Zoning Board.  Michael Gillam has been appointed as a Class IV alternate and Tracy Hommes has been appointed as an alternate.

  3. The Police Department's body cameras need to be replaced.  New Motorola cameras will be purchased through a national cooperative purchasing agreement.

  4. A pre-construction meeting was held with the Bay Park Marina contractor.  Phase 1 will be completed before May 21, 2025, and Phase 2 will start no sooner than September 2nd.  Boat owners will be contacted about removing their boats to facilitate this project.

  5. Council expressed thanks to the Avalon Volunteer Fire Company and those fire companies from three other communities who responded to a house fire on 4th Avenue on September 24th.  There were no injuries sustained in this fire.

  6. Borough property Owner Martha Wright provided Council members with copies of an article about light pollution and requested they read the article and consider how to control/reduce light pollution in the Borough.
