Community Connections Presentations and Photos

Last Saturday, April 13th, AHLOA sponsored our 12th annual Community Connections event at Community Hall on 30th Street and Avalon Avenue. In addition to the usual Borough departments and community organization information tables, we had the privilege of hosting two guest speakers.

Our first speaker was Lisa Ferguson, PhD, Director of Research and Conservation from the Wetlands Institute. Lisa presented an excellent summary of the past, present and future focus of the Wetlands Institute, now celebrating its 50th anniversary year in 2019. At the conclusion of Lisa’s presentation, Jack Keenan, president of AHLOA, presented Lisa with a donation of $700.00 to the Wetlands Institute in appreciation of the organization’s contributions to coastal and environmental analysis and wetlands preservation, and especially in service to the residents and visitors to 7 Mile Island — both above and below the water line. Photos from Lisa’s presentation and a copy of her slides follow below.

Our 2nd speaker was Scott Wahl, Business Administrator of Avalon Borough. Scott presented a well-received summary of the new Borough Construction Ordinances that go into effect May 1st. Previous Did You Know posts on this AHLOA website contained more details concerning the specific changes, with links to the Borough’s website. Photos from Scott’s presentation, and the summary slides, are available below.
