Borough Council: January 10

Council held the regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. The following issues of interest were addressed:

  1. Council addressed the Length of Service Program Credits as a way of recognizing and rewarding the efforts of the members of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Company.

  2. The establishment of an Appeals Tribunal for decisions rendered for the two marinas was discussed.  The proposed Tribunal would give due process and the members would be the Borough Business Administrator, Legal Counsel, and one other appointed Borough Officer.

  3. Tom Thornton of Mott McDonald, the Borough Engineer, gave a presentation describing the fall beach erosion from storms, and the expectations of further erosion created by weather conditions before summer.  The Borough wants to prepare for a definite spring beach fill.

  4. The tree dedication process was discussed and changes recommended by Council and the Borough Solicitor were discussed.  Specifically, the process will now provide for two notifications when the term of the dedication is about to expire with sufficient time for the dedication to be renewed.
