Council held the regularly scheduled sessions on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. The following issues of interest were addressed:
In the Mayor's absence, Council President McDermott read a proclamation recognizing the 26 years of service of James Craft, Chief Financial Officer of the Borough. Mr. Craft is retiring the end of May. Mr. McDermott was followed by AHLOA President Tony Newshel and AHLOA Treasurer John Bell who recognized Mr. Craft's many years of service to the Community. In recognition of his service a check, payable to the Beacon Animal Rescue, was presented in Mr. Craft's name in thanks for his service at the time of his retirement
Mott McDonald presented a tentative work plan regarding lead water pipe line replacement. This is required by the state and must be accomplished within ten years (with the possibility of a five year extension). Avalon has already used two years of the allotted time. Property Owners will be notified of details via of a brochure which is being developed.
The Borough dredging permit was discussed. This permit includes the provision that private slip owners can have their own contractor engaged in dredging their slip and use the Borough's permit in order to accomplish this.
The Beach Replenishment project has started and will be suspended from Thursday through Monday of the Memorial Day Weekend. Beach access from 10th to 15th Streets inclusive are still unsafe and will remain closed until they are considered safe as a part of the beach replenishment project.
It is anticipated that bidding process for the reconstruction of Bay Park Marina will go out around the 4th of July weekend.
